That’s the rhythm of our typical 9–5s.
But amidst this, there’s something that lingers, something that’s not easily forgettable: the impact of how we treat people.
We’ve all been there, right? A conversation or a meeting that sticks with us (not because of the PowerPoint slides or fancy buzzwords) but because of how it made you feel.
It’s in those moments that meaningful interactions take center stage — the moments that call for mutual respect, collaboration, and support.
Here are some specific examples from my observations and personal experiences on how to do that:
1. During meetings or discussions:
🌟 Be the champ of equal participation. Give everyone a chance to shine and genuinely listen to their ideas.
🌟 Acknowledge and appreciate contributions, even if they challenge your own perspective. Treat it like a mental workout, if you may.
🌟 Avoid the temptation to hijack the conversation. Give others space to complete their point.
2. In daily interactions:
🌟 Offer a helping hand when you notice someone is struggling with a task.
🌟 When success arrives, share the spotlight. Give credit where it’s due.
🌟 Constructive feedback? Keep it on the down-low. Offer it privately, with specific examples for improvement. Nobody likes their mistakes to be broadcasted.
🌟 Pay attention to your tone and body language. Make sure it says, “I respect you,” instead of, “I need another cup of coffee.”
3. In times of conflict or disagreement:
🌟 Approach conflicts with an open mind, seeking resolution rather than assigning blame.
🌟 Foster a culture of civilized debate. Encourage your team to express their concerns respectfully, without turning it into a verbal wrestling match.
🌟 Focus on the issue at hand, rather than personal attacks. The aim here is to solve problems, not create new ones.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about ticking off tasks on a to-do list.
It’s about creating meaningful connections and increasing the impact you leave on the people around you.
